iolo Personal Firewall is blocking access to MySpaceIM.

This article applies to:
  • iolo Personal Firewall
  • System Mechanic 7 Professional
  • System Mechanic 8 Professional
  • System Shield 3 Internet Security

PROBLEM

iolo Personal Firewall is blocking access to MySpaceIM.

CAUSE

MySpaceIM uses ports that iolo Personal Firewall is set to block by default. Under normal conditions iolo Personal Firewall should prompt the user to allow access to AIM upon start-up of the application. If this process is aborted or does not occur it may be necessary to manually allow access.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue so that both iolo Personal Firewall and MySpaceIM can run simultaneously a program policy must be created.

  1. Start iolo Personal Firewall.
  2. From the main firewall interface locate the Program Policies panel and click Manage policies.
  3. Under General Tasks, click Create new policy.
  4. Under Filename click Choose to reveal a drop down list.
  5. From the drop down list, choose Select from a list of installed programs.
  6. Locate the entry for MySpaceIM and click OK.
  7. Under both Internet Zone and Trusted Zone, select Allow for Incoming and Outgoing communication.
  8. When you are finished, click OK, then Apply, and finally Save.
  9. Run MySpaceIM and iolo Personal Firewall as desired.
